9/11 remember
After viewing youtube videos and articles on the events that ocurred on September 11, 2001 it brought me back to my exact location during the horrific news. I was in sixth grade sitting in my classroom when my principal's voice suddenly blared on the loudspeaker, strange for the time of day. He had us all take a moment of silence for everyone involved in the events and later in the day we sang patriotic songs. I did not understand what had happened and I even remember lying to my parents and saying I was afraid in order for me to selfishly go play at my friend's house that afternoon. Looking back at the events I was a naive eleven year old girl with no comprehension of how big this attack was on our nation. I looked at the youtube videos of the plane's crashing and my hair stood up on my arms. It is so crazy to me how many people died and how much our nation has come together due to horrible and unforgetting trauma. I know I may not have understood the 9/11 hijacking attacks back then but I do now and have a lot of pride for the way our country got up and dealt with such a devastation.

It is really interesting to read your reactions to that day. I was a senior in High School, getting ready to make my way out into the world, and suddenly, the world I knew was gone. Realistically, there was no way for you to understand what was happening because of your age, but truthfully, nobody really knew. All we knew was that nothing was ever going to be the way it was before.
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested to see what you have to say about some of the other pieces this week--the CNN live footage is a "standard" piece of media that comes to mind when we think of 9/11... MAN ON WIRE brings out a range of connotations of the Twin Towers, though... and 9/11 makes whats going on that much more poignant.... And then there's the 11'9" films, the Ground Zero mosque....
ReplyDeleteI was also in 6th grade when 9/11 happened. I remember my teacher explaining to everyone what was going on and how it was a sad day for America. I was a little confused, but so curious like most kids. I still to this day get so interested when there is a documentary, movie, or news about 9/11. This past weekend I was watching the National Geographic channel with my mom and it was a documentary about the before and after of 9/11. I can honestly tell you I learned so much and was getting chills from the footage they were showing. This is the website and I highly encourage anyone interested to rent it and or find out when its playing next!!!
