books compared to movies
I think everybody believes that novels are better then the films that are made about them, at least I do. This reigns true for even the greatest movies. One of my all time favorite films is Mystic River which has great actors and a great direction to the film. I read the book several years later and fell in love even more and was actually upset at some of the choices they did not keep from the book in the film. I just finished reading The Town and although I have yet to see this movie I compared the book to the movie with my friend who saw it and she was shocked at some of the differences. Small changes make me mad because I know it is for the hollywood affect. I also hate when endings in films change like in The Town and Marley and Me. I will continue to read and compare books and films and I suggest you try it because it is something fun and interesting to do!

I absolutely HATE it when the end of a movie is different from the end of the book. It drive me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you!! It could be because I'm an aspiring novelist (while my boyfriend is an aspiring filmmaker) but he and I have this argument all the time!
ReplyDeleteHe likes to say that the films are always better adaptations because they condense the story, are faster to get through and keep you better entertained. I like to say he thinks that because he doesn't have the attention span to read.
I agree with you as well. Books let you use your imagination a bit more and give you the opportunity to imagine how everything is set up what the characters look like and so on.Films do all of that for you, and people tend to find them more entertaining. But i feel like after reading a book and loving it that you should never see the film.Lovely Bones had always been one of my favorite books and when i saw the movie i had literally got angry because they ruined it for me, everything was different and they used so many stupid effects, and when i had read it that wasn't how i interpreted it at all.Same goes for Eat.Pray.Love and Marley and me!
